I am a Finnish IT and documentation professional, but my passion is narrow wares: band weaving, tablet weaving, braiding, fingerloop braiding, sprang, luceting… I am a long-time member of The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and for many years I have concentrated on these techniques as they were done up to 1600, but I have always been interested in these techniques in general.
I love teaching and spreading knowledge. This site was supposed to be only in Finnish, but then I found that because of my linguistic skills and my technical knowledge I am able to collect and amalgamate information that is not easily available unless you read eg. Finnish. Thus pirtanauha.blog became a bilingual site, with slightly different content in each language because of different needs and background.
My interests converge in my bachelor’s thesis that I need to write to finish off my new education within IT: I’m going to research and discuss software for weaving narrow wares, both band weaving and tablet weaving. All the band weaving software I find will be listed in the Tools section, and when I have some results, those will be added to the page. Because of the requirements of Laurea University of Applied Sciences, the official version of my thesis will be in Finnish, but I promise that there will be some kind of an English version as well.
